FIFA 5s / The Skill Factor
FIFA 5s / The Skill Factor

Kicks off at MyTime venues from September 2009
Join us for the best way to play five-a-side!
Fifa 5s is a brand new programme developed by the Skills Academy. Designed to give you more match play in your sessions, closer control and developing better habits in football in order to progress towards a higher goal!
Fifa 5s concentrates more on the techniques used in the game Futsal, FIFA’s official version of five-a-side football, using a smaller heavier ball. Futsal is a skill based game with minimum contact, played by the likes of Ronaldinho and Messi, it encourages young stars to think quick and deal with pressured situations in football that directly relate to eleven-a-side football. The game is suitable and enjoyable for boys and girls of all abilities.
In the Skills Academy’s Fifa 5s sessions, children will develop a better control of the ball and as records have shown, Futsal players have had as much as 4-5 times more touches of the ball, leading to improved ability in this small sided game. Children will have the chance to enjoy warm ups with footballs and work at new core techniques designed especially for indoor football (Futsal). They will play with new rules, designed to develop quick thinking under pressure and the weighted match ball will encourage children to keep the ball on the ground and be creative in attack.
Futsal has been played in the rest of the world for the last 60 years and England is playing catch up. So join us for Fifa 5s, a new match-play based session, running at a number of MyTime sports centres from September 2009. The Skills Academy is a top ambassador for this unique game, with the company’s Director Mike Delaney having played for England promoting its benefits to young players.
The Skill Factor

The new Skill Factor programme is a fun and exciting way for boys and girls aged 6-11 years of all abilities to develop their individual football skills.
This unique programme designed by Mike Delaney and his experienced Skills Academy team will enable children to develop each of the core football techniques and see how they score on test days during specific holiday courses.
With plenty of match time each week, youngsters will have the opportunity to put their skills in to practise in match scenarios whilst appreciating the importance of team play.
Players can progress from Skill Factor Starter through to a Skill Factor 5. Skill Factor ‘Soccer Stars’ who reach maximum points from two successive courses even win the chance to trial with a professional league club!
One such player achieved 30 out of 30 points and as a result was invited to trial with a professional footballing academy.

“I believe that the Skill Factor will greatly benefit children who are keen to improve their individual technique. It allows them something to aim at and each test is designed to improve both feet under timed conditions. I am confident that children who excel technically in the Skill Factor challenges will have a greater chance of performing to the best of their ability in matches. This is certainly a fun and exciting way for boys and girls to master all different areas of football skill.” - Mike Delaney
The Skills Academy recognises the importance of improving basic football techniques as well as welcoming individual skills and flair. The new programme therefore even includes dribbling skills ‘moves’ in their list of challenges.
